Francis Kariuki

adekola_0.jpgDr. Francis Kariuki is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a lecturer at the Strathmore University Law School. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and a Master of Laws degree (LL.M) from the University of Nairobi, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. His doctoral thesis was examining the role of traditional governance institutions as sui generis frameworks for the protection of traditional knowledge in Kenya.

He has published a book on Property Law in Kenya, and several journal articles in his research interests including intellectual property rights, traditional knowledge and traditional governance institutions.

He has been engaged as a consultant by Open AIR under the 'Indigenous entrepreneurs Theme: case study leader and has been awarded grants including one by the GCRF on a project titled "Inclusion, Participation and Development: Implementing Kenya’s Protection of Traditional Knowledge and Cultural Expressions Act 2016".
