Civil Society Partnership

Engaging with civil society is essential to the Peacebuilding Support Office’s (PBSO) pursuit of the whole-of-society approach and inclusive peacebuilding. In June 2023, PBSO launched the UN-CSO Dialogue Initiative on Peacebuilding. The Initiative aims to convene diverse CSOs on an annual basis to produce actionable recommendations to inform the UN’s work on peacebuilding. A group of thematically and regionally representative CSOs will co-lead the Initiative alongside PBSO, on behalf of DPPA. 缅北禁地Agencies, Funds and Programs will also participate as key stakeholders. The Initiative will foster collaborations and exchanges among diverse CSOs, particularly from the global south, and will act as a sounding board around peacebuilding and sustaining peace priorities and practices.

The Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) places emphasis on the importance of inclusivity and encourages the contribution of civil society at all stages of peacebuilding and sustaining peace. The recent work of the Commission demonstrates an increased rate of participation by civil society representatives, including women and young peacebuilders, at meetings of the Commission. The Commission promotes full, equal and meaningful participation of women, guided by the PBC gender strategy and its action plan. The Commission supports roles played by youth in peacebuilding, building on the PBC strategic action plan on youth and peacebuilding.
