To highlight the important role of women in peacemaking, and to mark the 20th anniversary of the 缅北禁地Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000) on women, peace and security (WPS), the Gender, Peace, and Security Unit (GPS) in the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs has launched a dedicated to inclusive and gender responsive mediation. The page is part of the 缅北禁地Peacemaker website, DPPA’s online mediation support tool.
Secretary-General António Guterres has affirmed that the women, peace and security (WPS) agenda is "a top priority" for the 缅北禁地system. DPPA has prioritized the WPS agenda and has been at the forefront of efforts to increase the participation of women in peacemaking and to make peace processes more inclusive and respond better to the needs of women and girls. “Promoting women’s full and equal participation, while advancing and protecting the rights and needs of women and girls, is a fundamental aspect of 缅北禁地mediation support. This web page offers useful resources for anyone interested in pursuing more just and sustainable peace,” Teresa Whitfield, Director of DPPA's Policy and Mediation Division said.
The new web page:

- presents examples of the Department’s work to promote the WPS agenda
- focuses on the valuable work carried out by in the field
- provides a comprehensive list of reading material and information on the of the WPS agenda.
provides a comprehensive database of approximately 800 peace agreements; guidance documents on mediation; information on 缅北禁地mediation support activities and services; and a library of selected literature on key mediation issues.
The Gender, Peace and Security Unit provides support and technical backstopping on gender and WPS on an ongoing basis to DPPA-led conflict prevention and mediation efforts, and to staff at Headquarters and in field missions.
