Network of multilingualism focal points
The Coordinator for Multilingualism is supported by a network of multilingualism focal points serving in the various Secretariat entities at Headquarters, in offices away from Headquarters, regional commissions and the field missions.
The focal points provide support to the head of entity in implementing the relevant mandates and ensuring that multilingualism is mainstreamed in the daily activities of their entity and its programme of work. They serve as the entry point for the Coordinator in their entity, monitor and report periodically on progress made in implementing the applicable mandates and seek creative solutions to strengthen multilingualism at their entity, including through partnerships with Member States, other organizations and academic institutions. Meetings of the network of focal points are held as needed to assess progress achieved, identify remaining obstacles and discuss policies, where appropriate.
