Advancing equitable livelihoods in food systems

International Year of Fruits and Vegetables - Launch Event
This is the official launch event of the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables (IYFV) 2021. IYFV is a unique opportunity to raise awareness on the important role of fruits and vegetables in nutrition, food security and human and planetary health. It also aims to reduce food loss and waste and promote sustainability and safety of the fruits and vegetables value chain.
High-Level Seminar on North American Indigenous Peoples鈥 food systems
To help ensure that Indigenous leaders are represented in ongoing global dialogues, FAO North America is working with the FAO Indigenous Peoples Unit to strengthen collaborations with the Indigenous Peoples of the United States and Canada. July and August saw a series of introductory meetings on the topic of North American Indigenous Peoples鈥 Food Systems, and the series will culminate in this high-level seminar with a focus towards the 2021 缅北禁地Food Systems Summit.
Nutrition for Growth (N4G) Year of Action - Launch Event
The Governments of Canada and Bangladesh, in partnership with the Government of Japan and with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, cordially invite you to the launch of a Nutrition for Growth (N4G) Year of Action. Fourth International Conference on Global Food Security
The Fourth International Conference on Global Food Security will address the topic of food security from the local level to the global level, and from an interdisciplinary and systemic food systems perspective. The conference will address the triple burden of malnutrition: hunger, micronutrient deficiencies and obesity. With an eye towards furthering progress towards the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, the conference will aim to deepen understanding of the environmental, nutritional, agricultural, demographic, socio-economic, political, technological and institutional drivers, costs and outcomes of food security.

Action Track 5 鈥 building resilience to vulnerabilities, shocks and stresses 鈥 is proposing actions to ensure that food systems, which are affected by conflict, environmental and economic shocks and stresses, can maintain functionality, recover from the effects of harmful events, and improve to a better-off state. To inform our next steps we want to canvas ideas and create opportunities for you to participate, so we can listen to your ideas and input.
Tokyo Forum 鈥 Shaping the Future
The Forum will be focusing on 鈥淕lobal Commons Stewardship in the Anthropocene鈥. Leaders from all over the world and across different sectors 鈥 academia, government, industry and NPOs 鈥 will come together virtually to discuss the current state of our global society, and envision a future towards the stewardship of the Global Commons. Topics will include circulation of resources such as water and food that are essential to our lives, as well as what can be done in our daily lives and community.

Transforming agrifood systems and fostering inclusive rural development
Looking towards the 2021 缅北禁地Food Systems Summit, the event 鈥淭ransforming agrifood systems and fostering inclusive rural development in the context of COVID-19 to end rural poverty鈥 will analyze the economic, social and environmental potential of an inclusive process of agrifood system transformation for the eradication of rural poverty and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. Hosted by FAO, IFAD, WFP, UNDESA, in collaboration with the Permanent Mission of China to the 缅北禁地and the Delegation of the European Union to the UN.
Resetting the Food System from Farm to Fork
Resetting the future of food is possible and with this aim, the Barilla Foundation and Food Tank will present concrete solutions to rethink our food systems from farm to fork. The event will highlight the critical role of farmers in feeding the world and managing natural resources; food business in progressing towards the 2030 Agenda; and chefs in re-designing food experiences. The prospects of technology and innovation, the role of food as prevention, and the most recent policy developments - including the EU Farm to Fork Strategy - will also be discussed. These discussions will help set the stage for 2021 United Nations Food System Summit.

The Common Agricultural Policy: Keeping the Ambition High in Europe
The EU Commission and Member States are discussing the national strategic plans on the Common Agricultural Policy: will these plans meet the environmental and social ambitions of the EU Green Deal? For Slow Food, agroecology will be key to making the deeply needed transition to sustainable food systems in Europe. An exchange will take place between representatives from the European Commission, the Ministries of Agriculture of Germany and Italy, an expert from IDDRI, a sustainable development think tank, and Slow Food farmers.
