The Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA) and the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) are hosting an Academic Conference on “Africa’s fiscal space, fragility and conflict” from Tuesday, 22 February to Thursday, 24 February 2022 at 9:00am  – 12:00pm (EST).

The conference is being co-organized as part of OSAA’s extra-budgetary project on “Strengthening the capacity of African countries to design and implement policies that promote the interlinkages among humanitarian, development, peace and security for an accelerated implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Agenda 2063”, which is funded through the 缅北禁地Peace and Security Trust Fund.

Building on the call for papers on the same theme, the conference aims to provide a global platform for experts, scholars and academics to interact with African Member States, 缅北禁地entities, and African Union institutions around the interlinkages between fiscal space, fragility and conflict, in particular, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, and more specifically, the potential implications of the pandemic on fiscal space, stability and conflict.

The Conference is expected to result in concrete policy recommendations from selected papers and discussions on how to expand the fiscal space, advance sustainable development, avert deterioration of fragility and prevent conflicts on the continent, in the context of recovery and building back better from the pandemic.
