Launch of CT TECH+ to strengthen law enforcement capacities to respond to the increasing misuse of new technologies for terrorist purposes

The CT TECH+ project was launched at an event organized by the European Union (EU), the International Criminal Police Organization, the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), in New York on 22 November 2024.

Implemented under the Global Counter-Terrorism Programme on Cybersecurity and New Technologies of the United Nations Counter-terrorism Center of UNOCT (UNCCT/UNCCT), CT TECH+ will contribute to global security by strengthening selected Partner States’ law enforcement capacities to respond to the increasing use of new #technologies for terrorist purposes, while protecting human rights and in a gender-responsive manner.

Through the CT TECH+ initiative, UNOCT/UNCCT and INTERPOL will:

  • organize and facilitate national consultations to review Partner States’ law enforcement capabilities for new technologies, including on artificial intelligence, and identify priority areas for improvement across policy, legislative and institutional pillars.
  • support selected Partner States in conducting national threats assessment, development of national counter-terrorism policies and strengthening public-private partnerships in countering the use of new technologies for terrorist purposes
  • support all CT TECH+ Partner States in strengthening law enforcement capacities to use OSINT, AI, Darknet and Virtual Assets investigations in countering terrorism.

With the financial support of the European Commission Service for Foreign Policy Instruments (EU FPI), CT TECH+ will continue to improve selected Partner States’ response to the increased misuse of new technologies for terrorist purposes, focusing on strengthened policy frameworks, improved law enforcement operational capacities and technological capabilities, reinforcing interagency and international cooperation, and public-private partnerships.
