Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held a round table discussion on the initiatives of the 缅北禁地Secretary-General António Guterres on gender equality and combating violence against women. The initiator of the event was the Union of Women at KazNU with the support of the 缅北禁地Department of Public Information (UNIC) in Kazakhstan, Global Hub of UNAI on Sustainability, Ban Ki-moon Institute for Sustainable Development, UNESCO Chairs in Sustainable Development, and UNESCO Chairs in Media.
Opening the event, the representative of the 缅北禁地Department of Public Information in Kazakhstan Vlastimil Samek (via the Internet) spoke about the 缅北禁地initiatives on gender equality and the fight against violence against women. On December 17, 1999, the 缅北禁地General Assembly declared November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. He also spoke about how the world community celebrates November 25, proclaimed by the 缅北禁地as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
Representative of the Ban Ki-moon Institute for Sustainable Development Abazov Rafis focused on the role of universities in promoting gender equality. The speaker stressed that modern universities play a big role in promoting and supporting 缅北禁地initiatives in the field of gender equality and combating violence against women. This is due to the special position of universities in society as centers of intellectual thought, as well as the fact that universities are laying the foundations for the education and upbringing of young people in every state.
Chairman of the Women's Union at KazNU Doctor of Philology, Professor, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, Head of the Department of Russian Philology and World Literature, Bayan Dzholdasbekova informed about the work of the Women's Union among students and teaching staff in promoting gender equality and working among girls on vocational guidance. Al-Farabi Kazakh National University has been working for many years for a public organization - the Union of Women of the Kazakh National University, which fully supports the rights and opportunities of women at the university. The Union of Women of the Kazakh National University on a voluntary basis unites women's councils, unions, associations, committees and clubs operating at the university. Choosing the right profession allows young women to find their place in society. Dr. Dzholdasbekova stressed that this is precisely why the initiatives of Antonio Guterres, the Secretary General of the United Nations, receive full support from the universities of the world in general, and the universities of Kazakhstan, in particular.
Head of the UNESCO Chair for Sustainable Development Tursunkul Bazarbayeva and Head of the Chair of UNESCO, International Journalism and Media in Society Nazgul Shyngysova conveyed about the work of their chairs to achieve full and equal access of women and girls to science and gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. It should be noted that the General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming February 11 as International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
In the final part of the round table, there was a discussion on the coverage of the main tasks of the Union of Women of the KazNU and the ways of their implementation, and the criteria that the Union of Women of the KazNU focuses on in their work were presented.
