Ever since the United Nations was founded shortly after the Second World War, the Security Council has addressed global questions of peace and security, based on the powerful role it was accorded in the Charter of the United Nations.

The Repertoire of the Practice of the Security Council is the official and comprehensive record of this work, shedding light on the evolving practice of the Council and its interpretation and application of the Charter and its own Provisional Rules of Procedure since 1946.

The Repertoire is a collection of books, with the first edition covering 1946 to 1951 and subsequent supplements covering periods up to 2011 in hard copy and 2015 in advanced segments online. The entire collection is available at the .

Target Audience

The Repertoire is for anyone who is interested in gaining useful information and valuable insights on the role of the Security Council and on how it approaches and addresses its primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security. It is primarily used by 缅北禁地Member States and 缅北禁地System organizations but also by researchers and think tanks.

Sources

The Repertoire is exclusively based on official documents of the Security Council, such as the Council's resolutions and decisions, the verbatim records of the Council's meetings, the Secretary-General's reports and the official correspondence from Member States. It is updated regularly through issuance of newer supplements and made available in the six United Nations official languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Spanish, and Russian.

Coverage

While the Repertoire covers all workings of the Council, core sections deal with the Council's agenda items, offering a comprehensive overview of the activities for each item on the agenda; with issues related to the Council's key mission as defined in the Charter, such as Chapters VI and VII; and with subsidiary organs, such as peacekeeping and special political missions, and sanctions measures.

Resources

Within the United Nations' Department of Political Affairs, the team that produces the Repertoire also rolls out periodic resources for Member States, the United Nations System and researchers based on its constant monitoring of the Security Council's work.
