Regional Crisis and Strategic Communications Workshop for South-East Asian Member States to Support Whole-of-Government and Whole-of-Society Approaches in the Wake of a Terrorist Attack

The United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism / United Nations Counter-Terrorism Centre (UNOCT/UNCCT) is hosting a four-day Regional Workshop on Crisis & Strategic Communications for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE) in South-East Asia through a Whole-of-Government and Whole-of-Society Approach, from 3-6 April 2023 in Bangkok. Bringing together over 50 participants from the governments of Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines, along with members of civil society, journalists, and other government representatives, the workshop will allow for the sharing of good practices, insights, and experiences on communicating around terrorist attacks and other major crises.

This regional workshop is a capstone event, following a series of national workshops on strategic and crisis communications organised by UNOCT/UNCCT¡¯s Global Programme on PCVE in the Philippines (August 2022), Malaysia (December 2022), Thailand (February 2023), and Indonesia (February 2023). It is part of an ongoing project co-funded by European Union and co-implemented with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

During the workshop, participants will develop a cohesive regional narrative for the purpose of crisis communications to enhance community resilience, with the support of UNOCT¡¯s Crisis Communication Toolkit building on pre-existing initiatives across all involved Member States, such as the National Action Plans for PCVE.

This project is co-funded by the European Union. Its contents are the sole responsibility of UNOCT/UNCCT and do not necessarily reflect the views of the European Union.
